DROP-OFF AND PICK-UP
The speed limit on campus is 5 mph and pedestrians always have the right of way. All members of the staff have the right to redirect traffic.
Do not have your child wait off campus.
Do not honk your horn. If you child is not waiting for you, park the car, exit the vehicle and walk over to your child.
Do not block traffic by double parking or stopping in undesignated areas.
Please be courteous to other drivers, parents and our neighbors.
Morning:
First bell 7:55am, School begins at 8:00am
The gates on Oakcrest Drive (accessed off Cahuenga West) will be open from 7:30 am to 8:50 am. At that time, parents may park on the Northwest side only. Cars must be moved by 8:50 am when the gates will be locked. Students are not encouraged to arrive before 7:30 am due to the lack of adult supervision.
Valley View has a valet service to assist your children out of the car for an orderly morning drop-off. Your children should exit the vehicle from the passenger’s side and have backpacks ready. Pull forward to the drop-off area to let your children out. For their safety, don’t let them out before the drop-off area. Please drive counter-clockwise through the parking lot to maintain the traffic pattern. Due to limited parking, it is strongly encouraged to come early if you plan to park and walk your children to the line-up.
Students may be dropped off at the Woodrow Wilson entrance to the school at the top of the stairs. Parents dropping children off are not ticketed by police officers. Once parents park cars and leave the cars to walk children onto the campus their vehicles become subject to parking tickets. After coming down the stairs children should cross at the marked crosswalk, and walk to the playground using the blue line under the covered walkway. Students and parents walking across the parking lot when staff members are arriving create a safety hazard.
After School:
Dismissal at 2:24pm (most Tuesdays early dismissal at 1:24pm)
The Oakcrest gate is open from 2:10 pm to 3:00 pm for student pick up (1:10 pm on early dismissal days). There is NO THROUGH-CAMPUS DRIVING FOR ANY REASON. Grades 1-6 parents should not use the Woodrow Wilson entrance prior to 3:00 pm.
Kindergarteners should be picked up promptly at 2:24 pm every day (except early dismissal days). Kindergarten parents may use the Woodrow Wilson driveway if they will be out of the staff parking lot by 3:25 pm. On early dismissal days they too should use the Oakcrest entrance. Parents picking up children from the after-school playground after 3:00 pm must use the Woodrow Wilson driveway. The Oakcrest gate is locked at that time for student safety. It is inappropriate for parents to drive close to the playground and honk the horn. It is best to park the car and walk to retrieve children.
